Target

The course helps provide the participant with the necessary knowledge of how a fire can start and develop, how to ensure hot work is carried out safely, and how to extinguish a fire if it should break out.

Target group

The course is intended for anyone who needs to carry out hot work or take on the role of fire watch in an area where hot work is being done.

Hot work is work which involves the use of tools that may produce sufficient heat or sparks to start a fire. Examples of hot work include welding, cutting, grinding, angle grinding, soldering, roofing work using an open flame or hot-air equipment, and any other work involving the use of an open flame.

  • Using gas in connection with hot work
  • How fire spreads and how to prevent it
  • Risk analysis
  • Documentation
  • How to create a safe workplace
  • How to extinguish a fire
  • Different extinguishing methods

The course ends with an exam. When you have passed the exam and we have received documentation confirming that you have completed a fire extinguishing exercise, you will receive a digital certificate from the Norwegian Fire Protection Association's site: https://brannvernforeningen.no/sertifisering/varme-arbeider/digital-certificate-on-tablets-and-mobile. Documentation that you have completed the required fire-extinguishing exercise during the last 3 months should be sent to [email protected] for registration within three months after completing the e-learning course.

The instructor for practical fire-extinguishing exercises can be one of the following:

  • Approved in the Hot work scheme
  • Employed in a fire service with competence in carrying out practical fire extinguishing exercises
  • Qualified personnel with competence in carrying out practical fire extinguishing exercises

The certificate is valid in Norway, Finland and Denmark for 5 years before it must be renewed. Courses completed after 1 July 2023 are not valid in Sweden.

Before you attend this course

Important changes after September 13th 2024:

The instructor for practical fire-extinguishing exercises can be one of the following:

  • Approved in the Hot work scheme
  • Employed in a fire service with competence in carrying out practical fire extinguishing exercises
  • Qualified personnel with competence in carrying out practical fire extinguishing exercises

Fire extinguisher training exercises must be done in connection with the e-learning course and no later than three (3) months after completing the e-learning course. (the arrangement that the practical extinguishing exercise may have been carried out during the last 2 years is no longer applicable).

The practical fire-fighting exercise can be carried out as a "live" exercise or with a VR fire-fighting simulator approved by the Norwegian Fire Protection Association.

Once the exam is passed and we have received the documentation, you will be issued a digital certificate via the Brannvernforeningen’s website.

You will receive an SMS when your certificate is ready. The extinguishing exercise must be completed within three (3) months after completing the e-learning course, and must be submitted to [email protected] for registration no later than three months after passing the e-learning course.

Validity: The certificate is valid in Norway, Finland, and Denmark for 5 years before it must be renewed. Courses completed after July 1, 2023, are not valid in Sweden.

Technical information

System requirements

This course can be run on a computer, tablet and smart phone. For handheld devices we recommend a stable Wi-fi connection. Flash is not required for this course.

Recommended minimum connection speed is 1.5 Mbps. If you experience problems while running the course, we recommend using the Google Chrome browser.

Confirmation practical extinguishing exercise

    • Qualified personnel with competence in carrying out practical fire extinguishing exercises
